Through Education, we hope to raise awareness of secondary breast cancer and empower patients by increasing their knowledge and understanding of research, treatments and options. Emma, Deputy CEO, talks us through the main achievements in the last twelve months.
2024 has been a pivotal year for Make 2nds Count with the successful launch of the Secondary Breast Cancer Patient Summit in June - the UK's first patient-focused event of its kind. In partnership with ECMC and The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre NHS Foundation Trust, we brought 90 women and men from our community together to hear first-hand from a number of experts in the medical field about how to navigate and understand clinical guidelines, and how to live well alongside secondary breast cancer. We were also delighted to be joined by over 400 people online.
The Summit was well received by all who attended and we are in the midst of planning the 2025 Summit as we write! We will be advertising how you can sign up to this event in February 2025.
Clinical trial round tables
We have been conducting some very important round table research with health care professionals up and down the country to understand the barriers around clinical trials. We have seen how trials can be an important part of a secondary breast cancer patients' journey and are determined to ensure that our community understands about trials and how to have those conversations with their care team. With more round table events planned in 2025, we hope to share the wider findings later in the year.
We have lots of exciting plans to raise awareness in 2025 and work more closely with health care professionals and others in the breast cancer sector.
