Edinburgh 5k - Running for Rowanne

15th May 2024 by Clare Cox

Edinburgh 5k

We are always so thankful when our supporters fundraise for Make 2nds Count. Jennifer is running the Edinburgh Festival 5k next weekend (25 May) for her friend Rowanne and shares with us why she has chosen to raise money for us.

Can you tell us a little about yourself?

My name is Jennifer I’m 36yrs old with two children. Lewis my oldest is also running with me this year.

Can you tell us about how you first got involved with Make 2nds Count?

I first got involved with Make 2nds Count through a friend of mine who happen to mention that this charity is the only fundraiser for people that are fighting secondary breast cancer. After looking more into the charity I was shocked to find out how underfunded secondary breast research is so wanted to try and make a difference.

Can you tell us more about why you chose to fundraise for us?

I choose this charity as sadly last year my amazing friend was diagnosed with secondary breast cancer. I was so shocked to hear that 51 people a day are diagnosed with secondary breast cancer and over 1000 people a month die from this disease.
Why is it important to you to have a charity dedicated to secondary breast cancer only?

I’m watching first hand how this is affecting my brave and courageous friend and family and wanted to try and make some difference for other woman and men to get more awareness and funding to try and find a cure. I was ignorant and probably like a lot of people think that other breast cancer charity’s do research into secondary breast cancers which isn’t the case.

Is there anything else you would like us to include?

I’m running on behalf of this gorgeous girl Rowanne (blonde). I want her to have as much time as possible with her boys, family and friends.
