This year clinical trials was a key area of focus for our Education programmes, helping people living with secondary (metastatic) breast cancer to access the information they need to explore the option of clinical trials as part of their treatment pathway.
Our Patient Trials Advocate service has really taken off this year! This is a free, confidential, information and support service here to help people with secondary breast cancer explore clinical trials as part of their treatment pathway. We were amazed to win an award at the Health Creators Summit on 25 October, organised by Voluntary Health Scotland.
We have now received more than 450 patient referrals from across the UK and our dedicated team of specialist nurses have found suitable clinical trials for 84% of patients. Our nurses are always here for you if you’d like to find out more about clinical trials and talk through the practicalities.
Earlier this year we launched a registry of all clinical trials for secondary breast cancer recruiting in the UK. Our public registry now has 75 active clinical trials listed. This pulls together information from all of the clinical trials databases used by medical professionals, to make searching for suitable clinical trial a little easier.
Recently we launched our new information page on menopause and secondary breast cancer. This page is packed with resources and helpful information on managing menopausal symptoms, specifically tailored for those living with secondary breast cancer. In 2024 we will be launching a range of new information pages for patients and their friends and family, so watch this space!
