6th December 2020 SBC & Me
When were you diagnosed with SBC?
I was diagnosed straight with secondaries on 4th February 2020 (world cancer day, what are the odds!)
How were you diagnosed with SBC?
I was diagnosed with 3 very small metastases on the tips of 3 of my ribs.
What has been your treatment Journey?
I was given curative intent with ablative radiotherapy to my small bone Mets, but I have had 6 rounds of Docetaxel, Herceptin and Perjeta, two lumpectomies (the first one didn't quite get clear margins) and recent scans have shown no evidence of disease, and long may that continue! I take Exemestane and have monthly injections to stop me ovulating. I am currently having 15 sessions of radiotherapy to my breast and chest wall.
What would have helped make your journey so far easier?
When I was diagnosed I felt so alone, being only 29 years old I didn’t know where to turn. I wish I'd known about charities like make 2nds count and the huge support network out there for SBC.
What advice would you give someone who has just received their diagnosis?
My advice would be, take time to digest everything, it is NOT easy for the first little while, you are scared and vulnerable, but once you process your diagnosis it does get easier, I promise! Also, cut out any negativity in your life, you don’t need it. Most importantly, look after yourself.
What is your favourite holiday destination?
Thailand has been my favourite holiday destination so far, I've been 3 times. If you haven’t been, go!
Do you have any great TV/film recommendations?
Below deck has been my guilty pleasure, I binged the whole lot in quite a short space of time.
