We are always so thankful when our supporters fundraise for Make 2nds Count. Chris is running The Great North Run (8 September) for his friend Laura and shares with us why he has chosen to raise money for us.

Can you tell me a little about yourself?

My name is Chris Philcox, I'm 37 currently living the high life in Billericay (no I don't know anyone called Gavin or Stacey) and I work as part of the Development team for the youth development charity, British Exploring Society.

Can you tell me how you first got involved with Make 2nds Count?

I was first made aware of Make 2nds Count, through my best friend Laura Dawson, sadly no longer with us. But, Laura, found great support through this charity and was an epic fundraiser and advocate for the work of Make 2nds Count. Unfortunately, I couldn't attend her big fundraising walk, Saunter for Seconds, around Ullswater lake where she raised an incredible £15k! So I'm running the Great North Run in her memory.

I'm running the Great North Run in memory of Laura and doing my bit in raising money for a charity that helps to bring much needed attention and support to the secondary breast cancer.

Why is it important to you to have a charity dedicated to secondary breast cancer only?

To have a charity focused purely on secondary breast cancer, helps to get the message out there that the research in this area is underfunded and more needs to be done to help raise awareness and educate around secondary breast cancer.

I want to encourage people to get out and support charities as much as possible.  Running a half marathon isn't easy, and crossing the finish line is a fantastic feeling. The only thing better is fundraising and supporting others on their journey.
